Foodservice Awards 2008

For the second edition, 250 restaurateurs and foodservice professionals gathered at the International Foodservice Awards which took place in London on January 25th, 2008.

The Golden Palm went to Leon (London, England), the Silver Palm to Zenzen (Monaco, France), and the Bronze Palm to Yooji’s Bellevue (Zürich, Switzerland). This year the winnig concepts are modern ‘healthy food’ restaurants: organic, sustainable, fresh, convenient and quick.

For this edition, there were 12 concepts nominated coming from 8 countries. 9 of them were award-winning concepts of Leaders Club France, Germany and Russia. Additionally 3 London based concepts participated in this contest: Teasmith, Wahaca and Leon.

The decision was made by the Grand Jury after a video presentation and short speech of the concept creator. The concept were being evaluated by the following criterias: Surfing trends, creativity, design-ambiance, development potential (also international), financial background.

Gold Palm – Leon ( London )
The Best Food for the Most People’ is the value that drives Leon . Serving fast food: eat in or takeaway with the emphasis on healthy, seasonal cooking. Dishes range from Soups, Meatballs, and Salads to Falafel and Slow Cooks. Ingredients are high quality and where possible organic and Fairtrade. Many items are low-carb, vegetarian friendly, allergy-friendly, gluten-free and sugar-free. The first Leon restaurant opened in summer 2004 and today there are 9 across London . The owners are John Vincent, Henry Dimbleby and Allegra McEvedy. The expansion plan: 1000 restaurants in 2020.

Silver Palm – Zenzen ( Monaco )
Organic fast food concept and delivery, specialised in Asian tapas. Zenzen was opened in September 2006 by Francesco Bongiovanni und Marco Fiorese and winner of ‘Palmes de la Restauration 2007’ by Leaders Club France .

Bronze Palm – Yooji’s Bellevue (Zurich)
In March 2006 Yooji’s AG opened Yooj’s Bellevue : two-storey restaurant, 44 seats at the kaiten and takeaway. The interior design is modern Tokyo style, the food premium sushi and home made lemonades with detailed information about ingredients. Each seat at the conveyor belt has its own touchscreen monitor with unique information and entertainment system. Winner of Gold Palm 2006 by Leaders Club Germany .
